One of the most impressive and popular attractions in San Diego is Balboa Park. The park was named after the Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa and was founded in 1868. One of the most highly rated films in American cinematic history is Citizen Kane. Much of the exterior of Charles Foster Kane’s mansion were shot amongst the historic buildings of Balboa Park. Oh, the park is also the home of the San Diego Zoo and 15 museums including San Diego Air & Space Museum, Museum of Photographic Arts, Reuben H Fleet Science Center, San Diego Art Institute and San Diego Automotive Museum.
The Low Speed Wind Tunnel, located at 3050 Pacific Highway, originally began operations under the direction of Consolidated Vultee (Convair) in May 1947. General Dynamics assumed operations in 1961 when the company acquired Convair. General Dynamics' Convair Division (and later Lockheed) operated the facility until a private company took over in 1994. The LSWT remains the only privately held low-speed aeronautical wind tunnel in the United States.
